Who we are

Ko wai mātou

Te Ao Māori – more than just Tikanga in the Workplace

Understanding a Māori worldview means more than just learning a few ‘rules’ to follow. We’re here to support your journey to an enriched understanding of Māori culture that we believe will add value to your work environment and your life in general.

Our Mission

We ignite a passion in all New Zealanders to learn, understand and fall in love with Māori culture.

Maurea’s mission

Maurea exists to see Māori culture drive Aotearoa forward. This mission is underpinned by a belief that Māori culture has a depth, beauty and sophistication that can help us respond to the challenges we face.

We aspire to ignite passion within all New Zealanders to learn, understand and fall in love with Māori cultural.

To deliver on our mission, Maurea provide Training, Consulting and Te Reo Māori Translation services.

In order to deliver on our goal to help over 1,000 organisations to actively practice Māori culture. We believe our success in achieving this goal will come from delivering in three important areas:

1. Embracing those who are ready to learn

New Zealand businesses are becoming more and more aware that as part of their strategy, they need to be open and accommodating of both Māori people and Māori culture. But, they often don’t know where to start. We offer a safe, flexible and modern approach for businesses to begin their journey.

2. Opening eyes, hearts & minds

Māori culture is irreversibly intertwined in the fabric of Aotearoa New Zealand, but many people just don’t know it. Through engaging with Maurea, we help people see a Māori perspective and gain an appreciation and love for the culture and the value it can bring not just to their businesses, but to their lives as well.

3. Upholding Māori values

We know that we need to be able to adapt our delivery and interpretation of Tikanga Māori so that it is applicable and relevant in different contexts. That being said, our culture is very important to us and we will always engage in a way that stays true to our Māori values.
